Our periodontology treatments are carried out by Specialist Dentist Zerrin Engin Bakkal. Early detection and treatment of gum disease is critical both for preventing the loss of natural teeth and for the success of implant treatment.
It covers the diseases and treatment of the tissues that support the tooth.
Periodontology is the speciality concerned with the gums and the bone tissue that supports the teeth. Left untreated, gum disease progresses gradually and can lead to tooth loss. At an early stage (gingivitis) a simple professional cleaning may be enough, while advanced stages (periodontitis) can require surgically supported treatment.
Six main areas of treatment.
Professional cleaning (scaling)
Removal of plaque and calculus from the tooth surface and along the gum line using ultrasonic instruments. This is the cornerstone of routine preventive care.
Gum curettage
Removal of plaque and granulation tissue that has progressed below the gum pocket. It is carried out under local anaesthesia.
Periodontal surgery
In advanced cases, flap surgery, bone recontouring and regenerative techniques may be applied. The aim is to halt bone loss.
Gum graft
Where gum recession is advanced, the gum level can be restored with a graft taken from the palate or from a tissue bank.
Aesthetic gum contouring
Aesthetic correction is carried out in cases of a gummy smile or an asymmetric gum contour.
Periodontal preparation before implants
Patients scheduled for implant treatment must be free of active periodontitis. Periodontal treatment is completed first.
