Hidden and extra canals (MB2)

Upper molars frequently have a second mesiobuccal canal that is easily missed — a leading cause of failed root canals. Under magnification it is found and treated, not guessed.

Calcified canals

Age- or trauma-related calcification narrows canal openings; magnification allows them to be located safely without blind searching.

Retreatment of failed root canals

Complete removal of old filling material, location of missed canals and reshaping are performed under direct vision.

Broken instrument removal

Fragments left from previous treatment are removed with ultrasonic tips under microscope view.

Perforation repair

Unintended root-wall perforations are sealed with bioceramic materials with direct visibility of the defect.

Crack detection

Micro-cracks are assessed under magnification, so a tooth that cannot be saved is not treated in vain — and one that can be saved is not extracted.

Examination and, where needed, CBCT (3D tomography) to map root anatomy.

Isolation

The tooth is isolated with a rubber dam for a sterile, saliva-free field.

Canals are located, cleaned, shaped and sealed under 4–25x magnification and coaxial light.

Control and restoration

Seal is verified; the final restoration (filling, onlay or crown) is planned to protect the tooth long term.

Is a microscope necessary for every root canal?

Routine front-tooth canals can be treated without magnification; molars, calcified canals, retreatments and complications benefit significantly. We evaluate every endodontic case with microscope support.

I had a failed root canal elsewhere — can the tooth be saved?

In many cases yes: a missed canal, incomplete filling or reinfection can be corrected by microscope-assisted retreatment. We first clarify the situation with CBCT and tell you honestly if the tooth cannot be saved.

Is microscope treatment painful?

No — treatment is under local anaesthesia. The microscope only enlarges the dentist’s view; because less healthy tissue is removed, recovery is usually more comfortable.
