Prof. Dr. Semih Özbayrak — founder of GC Clinic

Prof. Dr. Semih Özbayrak is the founder of GC Clinic. In 1985 he opened our practice on Şakayık Sokak in Nişantaşı with his wife, Dr Zümrüt Özbayrak, alongside an academic career that included 27 years as a head of department at Marmara University.

The clinic he founded is today owned and run by its Clinical Director, Dr G. Cansu Öztürk, whom he mentored through her specialist training.

Prof. Dr. Özbayrak no longer treats patients or carries out clinical procedures. As founding clinician he continues in an academic advisory role.

Academic path

From Istanbul to Berlin, and from Berlin to Marmara.

Istanbul University, Faculty of Dentistry
Completed his dental degree.
1973–1975
Ankara University
Worked as a dentist at the university’s Medico-Social centre and during his military service.
1975
Germany
Began working as a dentist in various practices.
1980
Freie Universität Berlin
Took up a post in the Department of Oral Medicine, Radiology and Diagnosis at the Faculty of Dentistry.
1983
Doctorate
Completed his doctorate on “Melanosis of the oral mucosa in smokers”.
1984–1985
Oral and maxillofacial surgery
Moved to the Department of Oral Surgery, then continued as a voluntary observer at the Maxillofacial Surgery and Plastic Reconstruction clinic of the Faculty of Medicine.

GC Clinic
Founded our practice in Nişantaşı with his wife, Dr Zümrüt Özbayrak.
1986–2013
Marmara University
Joined the Department of Oral Diagnosis and Radiology at the Faculty of Dentistry and headed it for 27 years. Associate Professor in 1988, Professor in 1995; retired in October 2013.
Legacy

Two generations, one standard.

Prof. Özbayrak’s background in oral medicine and diagnosis shaped how the clinic still works: an accurate diagnosis first, then the least intervention that does the job. That thinking continues in our conservative approach and in the diagnosis of oral diseases.

Cansu Öztürk completed her specialist training at Marmara University under his mentorship between 2012 and 2016, joined the clinic in 2014 and took over its leadership in 2019. Today she is the clinic’s owner and Clinical Director. Meet our clinicians on the Our Dentists page.
