Our oral surgery is planned with in-house CBCT imaging and, in suitable cases, carried out by Specialist Dentist Zerrin Engin Bakkal. Sedation can be considered as an option.

Six main surgical procedures are offered.

Tooth extraction

Where extraction is judged necessary, it is carried out comfortably under local anaesthesia. Our priority is to preserve the tooth wherever that is possible.

Impacted wisdom tooth extraction

A surgical procedure planned with CBCT imaging and carried out with careful regard to the surrounding anatomy. Sedation is considered where required.

Sinus lifting

A procedure to increase bone height for implants in the posterior upper jaw. Either the closed or the open technique can be chosen.

Bone graft

Where bone is insufficient, documented materials such as Geistlich Bio-Oss are used to increase bone volume before implant placement.

Apicoectomy

Surgical removal of the infection at the root tip in teeth where root canal treatment has failed or has become reinfected.

Excision of cysts and lesions

Surgical removal of cysts or benign lesions identified in the jawbone, and their submission for histopathological assessment.

Sedation is considered as an option in complex cases.

Sedation may be recommended for patients with high dental anxiety, for complex surgery or for lengthy operations. Conscious sedation is a method planned together with an anaesthetist that relaxes the patient without putting them to sleep.

Sedation is administered with the patient’s consent following written information. There are set waiting periods before and after the operation; these details are shared during the consultation.

Frequently asked questions about oral and maxillofacial surgery

Should an impacted wisdom tooth be extracted?

The decision to extract a wisdom tooth (third molar) is not taken on age or an image alone. Extraction is recommended in cases of recurring infection, pain, pressure on the neighbouring tooth, cyst formation and orthodontic necessity. Asymptomatic wisdom teeth in a correct position can in some cases be monitored rather than removed. The decision is made after CBCT imaging and clinical examination.

What does sinus lifting mean?

It is an operation carried out when the bone height in the posterior upper jaw is not sufficient for an implant. The sinus membrane is carefully lifted and the space created is filled with a bone graft. Sinus lifting and implant placement can be carried out in the same session or in separate sessions; this is decided case by case.

Is a bone graft safe?

Yes. Modern bone graft materials (synthetic, xenograft, autogenous) are biocompatible and supported by extensive clinical data. We prefer documented brands such as Geistlich Bio-Oss. Healing after the operation is generally uneventful and provides a sound foundation for a new implant.

Do you offer sedation?

Sedation is considered for complex surgical cases and for patients with high dental anxiety. Conscious sedation is planned together with an anaesthetist and allows treatment to be carried out comfortably without loss of consciousness. The sedation protocol is applied following written information.

How long does recovery take after an operation?

Swelling and tenderness in the first 24 to 48 hours after an extraction or simple surgery is to be expected and is managed with painkillers. Sutures are usually removed after seven to ten days. With advanced surgery such as sinus lifting or a bone graft, healing can take between three and six months; smoking and hard foods should be avoided during this time.
